Support builds for Unite for the Night gig

A number of key industry personnel and groups have thrown their support behind the fundraising, Unite for the Night gig, taking place this Thursday in Sydney.

The gig and any proceeds raised will be used to pressure the major parties to commit to strong night time economy and music policies in the lead-up to the 2019 NSW State Election on March 23.

Tickets are still available for the gig and anyone with an interest in having a strong night time economy in Sydney is urged to buy a ticket, buy their staff a ticket and promote the gig to their customers.

Tim Philips, a founding member of the Independent Bars Association and owner of Bulletin Place and Dead Ringer is looking forward to the gig.

He told TheShout: “If you love enjoying a night out in your city, attending this event will directly help promote the arts and night time culture in our city. There’s not much better value in seeing the amount of talent that’s been collected as well as helping our city’s arts after dark continue to thrive.”

In a video posted to social media, Co-Founder of Young Henrys, Oscar McMahon said: “Ladies and gentlemen of Sydney it is time for us to stand up to protect and preserve the culture of our city. I hope all of you join online, buy a $50 ticket and we’ll see you at George Street at the Metro Theatre for the Unite for the Night party on 7 March. And you best believe all the Young Henrys crew will be there.

Applejack Hospitality has also said it is a proud member of the Night Time Industries Association, the group who have put together the gig and who are campaigning for positive change in Sydney’s nightlife.

NTIA Chair Michael Rodrigues said: “Sydney and NSWs’ night life is slowly being strangled by endless red tape. 176 venues gone already and 100s more under pressure.

“This is the night fun fights back.

“Our industry will turn out in numbers on March 7 at the Metro and we’d love to see passionate Sydneysiders join us in this much needed campaign to revitalise our city. I can’t put it any better than one of our founding members Jake Smyth from the Mary’s Group: If we want our culture we have to fight for it.”

The gig will feature performances from Josh Pyke, Gordi, I Know Leopard, Eskimo Joe frontman Kav Temperley, and future soul singer-songwriter Wallace.

A number of stand-up comedians will also perform on the night including Matt Okine, Mel Buttle, Tom Ballard and Cameron James.
