Husk Distillers release unique new offering

by Tam Allenby

Husk Distillers has released the very first spiced Australian agricole rum, the second release in their North Coast Bar Series.

‘Spiced Bam Bam’ starts life as Husk’s unique paddock-to-bottle agricole rum, which is then barrel infused with whole native and traditional botanicals.

“Many spiced rums on the market are not technically rums, they are spiced spirit-based drinks,” says Distillery Manager Quentin Brival.

“We started with a smooth 3-4 year old barrel aged Australian agricole rum, and then infused it with whole botanicals rather than flavour essences.

“The result is unmistakably Husk, an authentic and full-bodied rum, naturally spiced yet not overly sweet – a rare expression of our region captured in a bottle.”

Roasted Australian wattle seed, local native ginger and sun-dried orange and mandarin peel combine with golden berries, whole Tahitian vanilla beans and cinnamon quills to create a unique spice flavour – rounded and balanced with a sprinkle of sea salt.

“The addition of sea salt accentuates the undertones of the salt spray winds that fan the distillery from the nearby surf coast, while wattleseed and native ginger play on the palate and remind us of our roots between the ocean and the rainforest,” said Distiller and Founder Paul Messenger.

Family-owned Husk Distillers is Australia’s only agricole rum distillery, putting a distinctly Australian twist on this traditional French-Caribbean style of rum making.

Spiced Bam Bam follows the first release in the series, Pure Cane – the unadulterated, pure expression of Husk Distillers’ unaged Australian agricole.

Pure Cane’s unique flavour profile can be used to replace many white spirits on back bars due to its versatility, and has picked up several international awards and medals.
