Bacardí Legacy entries open today

by Tam Allenby

Entries for the Australian leg of the 2017/18 Bacardí Legacy Competition are open as of today, Tuesday 1 August.

Bacardí Legacy was established to challenge the best contemporary bartenders in the world to create their own cocktail Legacy – that will stand the test of time and ensure that both bartender and beverage are remembered like the illustrious classic cocktails of the past.

Following in the footsteps of Fred Siggins, Alissa Gabriel, Andrew Bennett, and the current Australian Legacy title holder Dave Kerr, the winner of the Australian Grand Final will go on to represent Australia at the Bacardí Legacy Global Final in Mexico City.

In past competitions, Australian entrants have had an impeccable record of reaching the top eight and have proven their skills to the international bartending community. Their incredible performances have helped cement Australia as a significant contributor in the development of the bartending profession worldwide.

To enter, head to the official Bacardí Legacy Australia Facebook page or email bmalegacy@bacardi.com to receive the direct link. You will also need to submit a photo of your original Legacy cocktail.

Entries close 2 October at midnight AEST.

In the lead up to entries closing, Bacardí’s Brand Ambassadors will host ‘How to Win’ Legacy masterclasses in all major cities, where some of Australia’s Legacy legends will offer their tips and tricks on what it takes to make it all the way.

From the entries, the top 30 will be anonymously selected and then those successful bartenders will be asked to submit a video entry of themselves presenting their original Legacy cocktail at their hometown bar. This will be judged alongside the taste test conducted by the Bacardí Brand Ambassadors where each of the top 30 cocktails will be evaluated on its presentation, aroma and of course, taste to then cut it down to the country’s top eight.

The top eight will then present their original cocktails and the Bacardí Daiquiri in front of a judging panel of industry legends and that night the top three will be announced.

These three competitors will partner with Bacardí to promote their cocktail with a budget of $1000 plus complementary stock of the Bacardí rum featured in their cocktail.

Based on the success of the cocktail and the overall campaign, one of these three will be selected as the 2017 Bacardí Legacy Australian Cocktail Competition Winner at the final held in February 2018 in Sydney.
