Sullivans Cove Single Cask auctions for nearly $12,000

by Tam Allenby

A bottle of Sullivans Cove American Oak Single Cask #HH0351 has been sold at auction for nearly $12,000 AUD.

According to Sullivans Cove, the sale at Christie’s in London marks the highest-priced Australian whisky ever sold. It also follows previous success for the Tasmanian distillery at the 2018 World Whiskies Awards, where the same whisky was named as the ‘World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt.

“This is a significant milestone in the Australian whisky industry, and for Sullivans Cove,” says Managing Director Adam Sable. “It’s recognition that Australia is one of the best whisky producing regions in the world.”

Sullivans Cove American Oak Single Cask #HH0351 was distilled in June 2000 and decanted in January 2017, making it 16 years and 5 months old. It was matured in a 200L American Oak ex-bourbon barrel and produced only 136 bottles.

All £6,600 GBP ($11,667 AUD) from the auction will be donated to the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, an Australian charity whose mission is to keep children safe from all forms of violence.

So what’s next for Sullivans Cove?

“We’ll keep doing what we do best, focusing on our core range single malt whiskies whilst exploring experimental offerings,” says Sable. “Stay tuned!”
