The Douglas Club Golden Age of Travel

The Douglas Club revives its ‘Golden Age of Travel’ cocktail menu

by Andy Young

Melbourne’s The Douglas Club has reintroduced its Golden Age of Travel cocktail menu, inviting guests to embark on a global journey through six inventive drinks.

Running until 31 October, the new menu has been crafted in partnership with Bruichladdich Whisky and The Botanist Gin, capturing the romance of travel and the glamour of a bygone era.

Each cocktail ($21) celebrates a different destination, from South America to Africa and Asia to Australia:

  • Pico de Gallo – A martini-style serve with a brine inspired by the bold, zesty flavours of Mexico’s famous salsa, made with The Botanist Gin and Noilly Prat.
  • Andrade – A Brazilian-inspired mix named after author Mário de Andrade, featuring The Botanist Gin, mate tea, cachaça, Fernet Branca and lemon.
  • Ivrea – A nod to Italy’s Battle of the Oranges, combining Bruichladdich Classic Laddie, blood orange caramel, almond, cinnamon and citrus.
  • Baobab – Inspired by Africa’s Tree of Life, blending Bruichladdich Classic Laddie, Amarula, rooibos tea and ginger.
  • La Dua – Translating to pandan in Vietnamese, this tropical cocktail features Bruichladdich Classic Laddie, green Chartreuse, pandan, tapioca syrup, kidney bean orgeat and lime.
  • Larrikin – A distinctly Australian serve, cheeky in name and character, showcasing native ingredients such as mountain pepper, finger lime and wattle seed.

For those wanting a broader journey, the Around The World option ($32) offers a flight of three mini cocktails.

Set within Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street, The Douglas Club provides the perfect backdrop for the seasonal Golden Age of Travel menu. With its plush interiors, rich timber finishes and nods to Melbourne’s golden era of travel, the bar is a refined haven in the CBD where timeless glamour meets contemporary mixology.
