Maybe Sammy Showtime

Maybe Sammy premieres new cocktail menu Showtime

by Molly Nicholas

Internationally acclaimed cocktail bar Maybe Sammy has unveiled its annual menu, this year taking a cinematic turn with Showtime – a blockbuster lineup of 12 cocktails inspired by cult film and television.

With each Maybe Sammy menu the result of months of research, development and design, Showtime was treated as a full-scale production. From bespoke glassware to playful garnishes, Showtime draws on 12 iconic scenes from film and television, and reframes them through the bar’s trademark theatre.

Pushing creativity and storytelling, each cocktail is paired with its own short cinematic trailer, written, directed and performed by the team in locations around Sydney, underscoring the venue’s commitment to immersive guest experiences.

Paolo Maffietti, Maybe Group’s Director of Bars, says: “This is about more than just drinks; it’s about creating an experience that blurs the line between cinema and the bar. We put months into R&D, concepting, and design, but also into the theatre of how we present each cocktail. It’s playful, it’s immersive, and it’s something we want people to remember long after the last sip.”

Reimagined with Maybe Sammy’s signature flair, the cocktail list includes classics like Crocodile Dundee – a highball cocktail and nod to Australia’s outback, crafted with Glenfiddich 14, lemon myrtle, mango soda, coconut and macadamia, finished with a gelatin leaf with freeze-dried ants.

Other highlights include Peaky Blinders, a whiskey-apple highball using Benriach 10, amontillado sherry, jasmine, apple mead, citrus and green tea soda; and The Grand Budapest Hotel, a gimlet made with Ford’s Gin, pandan, watermelon, pink ginger, coconut water and coffee wash, served in custom glassware shaped like the Lobby Boy’s hat.

Beyond that, patrons can expect to find the David Attenborough Martini series – three Martinis that pay tribute to the Seven Worlds, One Planet documentary, each channeling the flavour of a landscape; plus The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (a Paloma riff), The Shining (a Whisky Sour), The Great Gatsby (a spritz) and The Big Lebowski (a White Russian).

The Showtime menu itself has been designed with the same theatrical flair, presented physically as vintage movie tickets bound like a swatch, and digitally as a cinema-style website featuring “Now Showing” signatures, “Classic Films” for timeless cocktails and “Premium Showings” for high-roller serves.

Each drink’s thematic trailer is accessible in-venue via QR code, turning the menu into an experience that reinforces Maybe Sammy’s reputation for immersive storytelling.
