Light Up The Cross

Light Up The Cross campaign drives Kings Cross revival

by Molly Nicholas

A wave of new hospitality and nightlife ventures has seen Kings Cross reclaim its former glory as a destination for drinking, dining and late-night entertainment, with more than 30 venues in the area now working together on the launch of a new campaign, Light Up The Cross.

Looking to revive the iconic nightlife destination, Light Up The Cross will kick off on Friday,1 November in the Kings Cross Quarter, a micro-precinct of venues new and old, with participating venues hosting exclusive after-dark offerings, promotions and events.

Nathaniel Bourke, Strategic Director of Kings Cross Quarter, says: “Kings Cross has always been the heartbeat of Sydney’s nightlife, and the buzz has been growing over the last few years.

“Light Up The Cross celebrates all that has been happening in the precinct and what’s to come. We’re so excited to welcome people back for all the authentic experiences that are available in this part of town.”

The revival of the area sees beloved venues such as Dulcie’s, the all-Australian cocktail bar which first opened in 2018, joined by newer ventures such as Teddy, Arms Length, and Pelicano, set to open later this month.

Designed to capture the vibrant past of Kings Cross while creating a sustainable future for the local night time economy, neon signs will appear on the night, directing visitors to participating venues.

Additionally, developers are demonstrating their confidence in the revival of the area by investing in the redevelopment of the Bourbon and Beefsteak pub and historic Les Girls nightclub into a $65m hotel and apartment complex.

Light Up The Cross will kick off on Friday 1 November, taking place from dusk until dawn with unique entertainment offerings, specially-crafted cocktails and promotional offers from the following participating bars:

  • Arms Length: Glow in the dark cocktail and drag queen entertainment
  • Chula: Glow in the dark cocktail and snack
  • Dulcie’s: Four raffle drinks on rotation
  • Grove Bar: Glow in the dark cocktails, DJs and a Drag in the Dark show
  • Potts Point Hotel: Glow in the dark and neon cocktails
