Celebrating the Vodka Martini with Haku

Celebrating the Vodka Martini with Haku

by Andy Young July 9, 2025

Premium Japanese Vodka, Haku, recently hosted an event at Prefecture 48 in Sydney to highlight the diversity of the vodka, particularly in a Martini.

Haku Vodka is made from hakumai – polished Japanese white rice – and is filtered through bamboo charcoal, which helps give the vodka its smooth finish, which the brands says, “reflects the purity of its origins”.

The Prefecture 48 event was hosted by House of Suntory Ambassador, Natalie Ng, who talked guests through the craftmanship of this rice vodka, its simplicity and the hakumai grain, which is what defines Haku Vodka.

The tasting featured three Hakumai Martinis, crafted by Whisky Thief’s Bar Manager, Manuel Belotti, and each was paired with seasonal rice-based canapes, to help highlight some of the characteristics of Haku Vodka.

The Kozakura Martini featured Haku Vodka, Mancino Skaura Vermouth and a Hombu Shuzo Shochu garnished with toasted rice and served with Sansho Gravalax, potato aioli and a rice puff.

Next up was the Omakase Martini crafted with Haku, Fukuchiyo Shuzu Nebeshima Sake, Lillet Blance, garnished with puffed rice and served with a choice of yuzu, umami, hinpki or Saukra bitters and a beef tartare, confit yolk emulsion, hazelnut, rice cracker.

Finally the Umetini featured Haku, Mancino Dry Vermouth, Umeshu reduction, toasted rice and was served with Onigiri, Matai mayo and shichimi.
