Brookies Slow Passion Gin

Brookie’s passion shows in new Slow Gin

by Andy Young

Cape Byron Distillery is becoming increasingly known for its passion for local produce, but there’s a new element to that passion with the release of a Passion Fruit edition of its Brookie’s Byron Slow Gin.

Brookie’s Slow Passion Gin is an innovative sipping drink created over several months from macerating the indigenous Davidson plums and locally sourced passion fruit in Brookie’s Dry Gin, a process that takes over 12 months.

The gin is bottled at 26 per cent ABV and is made with 100 per cent natural ingredients. And with just 1500 bottles made, it’s a very limited release and is described as having “bright and tangy flavours of plum, passion fruit, raspberry, and citrus”.

Eddie Brook, Co-Founder of Brookie’s Gin, said: “We’re passionate about the rainforest in our backyard and the incredible native ingredients that grow here in the Northern Rivers, including the native Davidson Plum.

“We’re constantly learning about native Australian produce and love playing around with these flavours, and not being too afraid to try something completely new. And what better way to add a touch more passion to our signature Brookie’s Byron Davidson Plum Slow Gin, than to steep in locally sourced passion fruit and let time weave its magic.”

Cape Byron Distillery uses the juicy ‘Sweetheart’ passion fruit variety purchased from their neighbours ‘Terania Creek Passionfruit’, a family-run farm in the Byron hinterland.

“Giving back to our local community and working with local suppliers and farmers is our priority,” Eddie said.

Brookie’s Byron Slow Passion Gin 700ml, RRP $70, and the distillery has created a number of recipe ideas, which you can see on the Cape Byron website.
