Caretaker’s Cottage named Best Bar at ALIA 2025

Melbourne’s intimate laneway venue, Caretaker’s Cottage, has been named Best Bar of 2025 by Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA).

Tucked inside a heritage cottage on Little Lonsdale Street, the bar now adds Australia’s top-bar accolade to a growing list of recognitions for its hospitality, atmosphere and cocktail craft.

Opened in 2022 by industry veterans Matt Stirling, Ryan Noreiks and Rob Libecans, the bar occupies a modest space with big ambition. Caretaker’s is “a small cottage that dates back over one hundred years, tucked away in the city’s CBD.” And since it’s opening has set a new benchmark for Australia’s bar scene.

Ryan said: “We are absolutely honoured to receive the ALIA award for Best Bar. Apologies we can’t be there, it’s a very busy time of year for us, especially with our second venue – Three Horses – opening.

“This award is for all our staff. It’s through their hard work and dedication that Caretaker’s Cottage is what it is. Big love to everyone in the room, congratulations to all the other winners, and have a great night.”

The Best Bar of 2025 honour signals that the venue is not just a hidden gem, but a benchmark for Australia’s bar scene small space, high impact. With its loyal following among locals as well as visitors seeking next-level hospitality, Caretaker’s Cottage now steps into 2026 with the kind of recognition that can cement its place as an industry leader.
