Continental Deli celebrates 10 years of tins, cocktails and community

It’s been a decade since Continental Deli first popped its vintage canning machine, rewriting the bar playbook with cocktails in a tin.

Founded in 2015 by Elvis Abrahanowicz, Joe Valore and Michael Nicolian, the Newtown favourite quickly became famous for turning preservation into an artform. The result? A roll call of icons: from the Mar-Tinny and Can-Hatten to Flan in a Can, Neapoli-tin, and even a Christmas Pudd-ting.

But Continental has always been more than what’s inside the tins. The shelves are still stacked with imported conservas from Spain and France, the deli classics remain firmly in place, and the vibe is as much about staying for ‘just one more’ as it is about quick pit stops.

Over the years, it’s grown into a true Newtown institution – the scene of first dates, anniversaries, family catch-ups, and late-night martinis you probably didn’t plan on.

Now, 10 years on, Continental is celebrating the milestone the only way it knows how: with tins, cocktails and a proper neighbourhood party. Across the anniversary weekend you’ll find $10 mortadella plates and $10 Mar-Tinnys, plus plenty of prizes and celebrations.

Still open 364 days a year (even Christmas Day), Continental Deli continues to serve up the same mix of fun, quality and hospitality that’s made it one of Sydney’s most distinctive venues, and a bar well worth raising a tin to.
