Suntory Cup

Suntory Cup finalists revealed

by Molly Nicholas

The iconic Suntory Cup is back, and the 2025 finalists have now been announced.

Founded in 1986, Suntory Cup is a celebration of the craftmanship, creativity and camaraderie of the hospitality industry, and until 2015 the competition helped shape industry leaders.

This year, the cocktail competition relaunched with a theme of ‘Reinvigorate the Retro’, challenging bartenders to reimagine a classic cocktail using one of Suntory Global Spirits’ brands.

Suntory Cup regional finalists have been selected across two categories – Club Omoroi, those who have more than two years’ experience behind the bar; and Club Yatte Minahare, those with less than two years’ experience behind the bar.

“The Suntory Cup serves as a platform for bartenders to exhibit their talent and push the boundaries of mixology,” says John Galiatsatos, Group Advocacy Manager at Suntory Global Spirits.

“We are genuinely impressed by the high standard and innovative spirit of the entries. Today’s consumers are increasingly discerning, favoring quality and authenticity, as well as brands that tell a compelling story. It’s inspiring to see the creative ways our brands are being showcased.

“The finalists captivated our judges with the narratives behind their cocktails, stunning presentations, and meticulous attention to detail that brought their creations to fruition.”

Regional finals will take place across July and August, kicking off in Melbourne on 14 July and finishing in Sydney on 13 August. A champion from each category will be chosen to embark on a trip to Japan to explore Suntory’s distilleries and immerse themselves in spirit consultancy, bar culture and mentorship from industry icons. Four rising stars will also be recognised through a People’s Choice Award.
