Chita Single Blend Japanese whisky launches in Australia

by Andy Young

House of Suntory is looking to make the most of the current high demand for Japanese whisky in Australia by launching Chita, a single grain whisky, into the market this month.

This entry-level whisky is described as having a “light taste and delicate sweet fragrance of honey and crème brûlée aromas”.

Fourth Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo describes The Chita Single Grain Whisky as the “serenity of Japanese whisky.”

Beam Suntory Group Marketing Manager Demetrius Giouzelis says Chita “embodies the House of Suntory ethos of harmony with people and nature, and its delicate and floral taste profile will play an important role in introducing new consumers to luxury Japanese Whisky”.

“The Australian launch comes after increased local and global demand for Japanese whisky as we’ve seen a 64 per cent growth year-on-year in the Japanese whisky category,” Giouzelis said.

Chita was launched globally in July 2015 and comes from Suntory’s lesser known third distillery on Japan’s Aichi Prefecture.

The 43 per ABV whisky comes in a 700ml bottle with Suntory’s black calligraphy design. Chita will be rolled out in the on- and off-premise in February with a $89.99 RRP.
