Dulcie’s in Kings Cross now open

A new bohemian drinking parlour, Dulcie’s, has opened in Sydney’s Kings Cross.

The new drinking den is described as a “sly wink to the mischievousness of a forgotten era in Sydney… highlighting the beautiful complexities and elegant stories from 1930’s Australia”.

This Australiana theme carries over to the drinks menu, which features only Australian wine and spirits, while the cocktail list leans heavily to the classics.

The man behind Dulcie’s is Brandon Martignago. With over 15 years’ experience in hospitality in Double Bay, Bondi and Potts Point, Brandon was excited to unveil his new passion project.

“I am obsessed with the stories of Sydney,” says Brandon. “I wanted to create a fully immersive experience where time is irrelevant – the atmosphere is insatiable.”

The bar is named after Mary Elizabeth Kathleen Dulcie Deamer – a novelist, poet, thespian, journalist, founder of the Fellowship of Australian Writers and the first female boxing reporter – who was famous in Kings Cross in the 1930s.

Dulcie’s also channels this era in its aesthetic, with Art Deco banquettes and barbacks kitted out in newsboy caps and suspenders like dancers from Potts Point’s Minerva Theatre.
