Hole in one: putt putt golf bar opening in Newtown

by Tam Allenby

Holey Moley Golf Club, an 18 hole putt putt golf course and cocktail bar, opens this week in Sydney’s Newtown in the former home of The Sando and more recently the Newtown Social Club.

With venues in Brisbane and Melbourne (pictured above) already open – and an Adelaide venue slated to open in early August – the launch party for Holey Moley Sydney will take place tomorrow night, on Wednesday 5 July, and will open to the public the following day.

Created by Funlab, the team behind the Strike Bowling chain, Holey Moley is described as “mind-blowing leisure-tainment”, combining a cocktail bar, mini-golf course, work of art and a “retro and social commentary” into one venue.

Local DJs will keep the energy high while golfers make their way through two different nine-hole courses, with each hole uniquely themed; think Willy Wonka, The Simpsons, Game of Thrones and Luna Park.

The on-site bar dubbed ‘The Caddyshack’ will provide a long list of fun cocktails, including a sparkling Grapefruit Mimosa, Kaffir Lime Margarita, Rhubarb & Pineapple Sour and Blueberry Yuzu Cooler, while food choices include Spicy Korean Wings and Pork Belly Bao.

Holey Moley Golf Club will be open Monday to Friday noon – late, and Saturday and Sunday 10am – late. Green fees are $16.50 per person for nine holes.
