Hospitality and creative co-working space to open in Sydney

by Tam Allenby

A new co-working space and collaboration hub for the hospitality and creative industries is set to open in Sydney’s Potts Point this July.

Behind the venture is brand experience and PR studio Example. Founded in 2017 by Rebecca Gibbs and Andy El-Bayeh, Example lists hospitality and drinks industry heavyweights like Merivale and Diageo among its current crop of clients.

Example House aims to be a “a new home for food, drinks, hospitality and creative talent, and designed to cater for the industries Example knows, loves and works with every day.”

Set in a transformed 350sqm sandstone garage, the new creative space boasts high spec design, dedicated desks, a boardroom, break-out spaces and two private meeting rooms – perfect for bar or restaurant owners who are struggling to find space for an office.

There is also a fully-functioning bar, kitchen and adjoining dining table – providing a backdrop for food and drink shoots – and a rotating artist mural where creatives can display their work.

The opening of Example House in Sydney follows the launch of Worksmith (and later Worksmith 2.0) in Melbourne last year.

“As we’ve grown, we’ve found that many of our friends in the industry are missing out on opportunities by not having their own home base like we do,” said Rebecca Gibbs, Director of Example. “We designed Example House to be a community, an educational space and a flexible place to work”.

Co-Director Andy El-Bayeh adds: “Example House is about bringing a bunch of smart and passionate people together, raising the bar for our industries as a whole. A place to share knowledge, share laughs, share space and share success”.

The space has been designed by Acme, the multidisciplinary design firm behind some of Sydney’s most acclaimed restaurant and bar spaces, including Fred’s, J&M, Archie Rose, and The Grounds of Alexandria.

Example is now calling on people in the hospitality and creative industries – from photographers to videographers, producers, writers, editors, journalists, content creators, restaurant owners and operators, food and beverage start-ups, UX and web designers, management companies, independent record labels, and interior designers – to join the fold.
