Scents of Place lunch series returns for 2019

Gin Palace’s Scents of Place lunch series will return this year after a successful first run in 2018.

Last year, the specialty lunches – which bring together a top Australian distillery with a leading chef – also marked the first time in the history of the Melbourne institution that it was open for lunch.

A “more focused” series this year, Scents of Place returns in 2019 with a tighter list of four distilleries (two from South Australia and two from Victoria), who will once again collaborate with some of the country’s top chefs to create inspiring, regional-focused menus for punters to enjoy.

The $110 ticket affords attendees a meet and greet with the faces behind each gin, a three-course, drink-paired lunch, and a cocktail workshop led by some of Melbourne’s top bartenders.

Kicking off the festivities on 1 June will be South Australia’s Never Never gin, recent recipient of the World’s Best Classic Gin at the World Gin Awards, who will pair up with chef Donovan Cooke (Ryne).

Next up (15 June) is Victoria’s Great Ocean Road Gin – which recently took home Best in Class in the Navy Strength category at the Australian Gin Awards – who will pair their coastal-style gins with the experienced hands of chef Matt Germanchis (ex-MoVida, now Captain Moonlight).

Victoria’s Four Pillars, arguably Australia’s most well-known gin distillery, will team up with chef Matt Wilkinson (Pope Joan) on 22 June.

Rounding out the series will be the Adelaide Hills distillery on 29 June, who have found the perfect collaborator in ex-Orana chef and native food expert Shannon Fleming.
