Aussies through to Top Four at Spirited Awards

by Tam Allenby

Two Aussie bars – Black Pearl and Maybe Sammy – and London expat Matt Whiley, the man behind Scout Sydney, are through to the Top Four at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards 2019.

Following the release of the Top 10 in mid-June, the Tales of the Cocktail Foundation has announced the Top Four finalists in each category.

Black Pearl has reached the final four in the Best International Bar Team category and will be facing off against Connaught Bar at The Connaught (London), Fifty Mils at the Four Seasons (Mexico City), and Licoreria Limantour (Mexico City).

A hotly contested Best New International Cocktail Bar award will see Sydney’s Maybe Sammy go up against Lyaness (London), Homeboy Bar (London), and Punch Room at The Barcelona EDITION (Barcelona).

Finally, Scout Sydney’s Matt Whiley is up for International Bartender of the Year against Moe Aljaff (Two Schmucks, Barcelona), Monica Berg (Tayer and Elementary, London) and Philippa Guy (The American Bar at the Savoy, London).

The finalists in each category are now invited to attend the Spirited Awards, hosted at the iconic Orpheum Theatre in New Orleans on Saturday 20 July.

“The depth and breadth of quality in our industry continues to grow and reflect the hard work and dedication of so many bar professionals around the world,” says Charlotte Voisey, Spirited Awards Chairperson.

“We are delighted to be able to celebrate that through the Spirited Awards year after year. Many congratulations to all of our Top 4 nominees this year, we look forward to recognizing you all and to announcing the winners in New Orleans soon.”
