Tanqueray launches new RTD

by Andy Young

Diageo has continued its recent trend of Ready-to-Drink (RTD) innovation with the launch of Tanqueray and Tonic, which is now available to all retailers.

Packaged in a 275ml emerald glass bottle four-packs, the RTD is a small version of the iconic Tanqueray bottle, and Diageo has also worked on producing a low-sugar tonic, to keep the product at 93 calories per serve and 1.1 standard drinks.

Drewe Letchford, Diageo Australia’s Head of Strategy & Innovation, told TheShout: “Diageo is focused on innovation driven by strong consumer insights that provide new ways for consumers to experience our brands in more occasions. We know that consumers are looking for everyday premium experiences they can enjoy at home where convenience doesn’t compromise on quality. Tanqueray and Tonic responds to that consumer demand.

“Gin is on trend right now, it’s the second fastest growing category within spirits, and in our opinion, one of the most vibrant and interesting. With Tanqueray and Tonic, we hope to welcome new drinkers to the gin category and make the premix experience more accessible and enjoyable.

“Tanqueray and Tonic has only just landed in store in the past couple of weeks but we’ve been overwhelmed by retail partner support which demonstrates the market for premium premix products.”

In terms of tasting notes for the new RTD, Diageo said: “Tanqueray London Dry Gin and Tonic, pairs our mouth-watering soft citrus signature Tonic, with Tanqueray Gin’s most delicate flavour notes, to create a perfectly poised Tanqueray Gin and Tonic. This blend provides both a soft, delicate flavour complexity with a bright citrus aroma.

“This is best enjoyed chilled, straight from the bottle or poured into a glass, over ice with a generous squeeze of lime.”

The 5.3 per cent ABV drink has a $24.99 RRP for a four-pack and the launch will be supported by out of home media, digital and in-store point of sale.
